Ba Na Hills Golf Club is located approximately 25 minutes inland from Da Nang, Vietnam, near the foothills of the cable car station leading to Ba Na Hills. Managed by IMG, the course holds the distinction of being the first golf course in Asia—and globally—designed by former world number one Luke Donald.
Set within a series of valleys framed by surrounding mountain ranges, Ba Na Hills features a diverse mix of natural topography and vegetation. Holes at higher elevations provide elevated vantage points with sweeping views across the valleys below, adding to the course’s dramatic setting.
The par-72 layout stretches to an imposing 7,858 yards and incorporates significant elevation changes alongside natural features such as large hardwood trees and winding streams that come into play on several holes. The rolling terrain creates a variety of lies and shot requirements, ensuring golfers of all skill levels are challenged while still finding the course enjoyable and rewarding.
The front nine plays as a more traditional parkland layout, bordered by pine forests and gentler terrain. In contrast, the back nine climbs and descends through the surrounding hills, introducing blind shots, doglegs, and more dramatic elevation changes. These holes are visually striking and present the toughest tests on the course.
Bunkering at Ba Na Hills is distinctive, with long grass framing the edges and faces of many hazards, partially concealing the sand from tee boxes and approach shots. Greens are angled to the fairways with only subtle undulations, allowing for a wide variety of pin positions and demanding thoughtful approach play.
Several holes stand out as particularly memorable. The par-5 4th and 5th holes are both highlights, though only the 4th is reachable in two shots. The lengthy 5th requires a carry over water from the tee, followed by two well-struck long irons or hybrids to reach the well-protected green in regulation. The par-4 10th plays uphill to one of the highest points on the course and offers an outstanding photo opportunity from the green, while the par-3 12th descends downhill and is among the most scenic holes on the property.
Facilities at Ba Na Hills Golf Club are first class and include a modern, contemporary clubhouse, a grass driving range with dedicated practice areas, and a well-stocked pro shop. The clubhouse restaurant provides panoramic views over the course and serves a wide range of cuisine, with Vietnamese dishes standing out as a particular highlight.
Operating to international standards under IMG management, Ba Na Hills Golf Club also features floodlighting on all 18 holes. While this slightly contrasts with the course’s natural setting, it allows golfers starting later in the day to complete their rounds and adds a unique dimension to the playing experience.
