The Dunes course at Da Nang is situated on the fledgling central coast of Vietnam amid 150 hectares of dunescape similar to what the world’s first golf courses were carved from. The 7,160-yard, 18-hole, links-style layout was designed in the true spirit of the game with blown-out bunkers, firm and fast fairways that bleed gently…
The BRG Da Nang Legends Norman Golf Course (formerly Danang Golf Club) opened in 2010 and quickly rose to international prominence, being named one of the 15 Best New Golf Courses in the World by USA GOLF magazine. Since then, the resort has accumulated an impressive list of accolades, including Best Golf Course in Asia in 2011, 2012, and 2013 as voted by readers of Asian Golf Monthly, Best Golf Course in Vietnam in 2012 by USA Golf Digest, and the prestigious IAGTO Diamond Award in 2014.
Designed by Greg Norman, the Dunes Course is built on the sandy loam soils of Danang Beach—an area rich in history long before it became a golfing destination. The course sits directly on the coastline where American forces first landed during the conflict of the 1960s, adjacent to a former central supply depot and airfield. Along Vietnam’s central coast, the natural seaside terrain closely resembles that of the world’s earliest golf landscapes, allowing a true links-style experience shaped as much by nature as by design.
The BRG Da Nang Legends Norman Golf Course delivers a distinctive and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities. Fairways are generous, water hazards are used sparingly, and there are no out-of-bounds areas. Sculpted bunkers, contoured greens, and extensive natural waste areas are carved directly from the surrounding dunes. Scoring well requires thoughtful positioning off the tee to allow aggressive approaches to the undulating greens. Fairways are framed by long needle pines, and errant shots into the trees often demand a low recovery played over sand and pine needles to return safely to play.
Wind is a significant factor along Vietnam’s coastline and plays a major role in shaping strategy. The par-3 16th hole, set against the backdrop of the South China Sea, frequently plays into a strong headwind, making club selection particularly challenging. When combined with firm, fast greens, windy conditions can dramatically increase the course’s difficulty.
Golfers familiar with links-style golf will feel at home, as the turf and soil conditions encourage creative shot-making, including bump-and-run approaches and even putting from well off the greens. The course draws inspiration from classic Scottish links and Australia’s sand-belt layouts, resulting in a design that is both familiar and uniquely Vietnamese—an unmistakable Greg Norman creation.
Complementing the course is a 4,000-square-meter clubhouse and a 300-yard driving range, both reflecting first-class standards and service. Dining options rank among the best in Da Nang, and enjoying the sunset from the rooftop lounge provides the perfect setting to reflect on the round and plan the next Vietnam golf holiday.
The BRG Da Nang Legends Norman Golf Course is a proud member of Golf Coast Vietnam, further cementing its status as one of Southeast Asia’s premier golf destinations.
