Laguna Golf Bintan is set across 60 hectares along the shores of the Straits of Singapore. Originally designed by Greg Norman, the course was comprehensively upgraded in 2016 by architect Paul Jensen to bring it in line with modern playing and maintenance standards.

As part of the renovation, all 18 green complexes were redesigned, and the number of bunkers was reduced and repositioned to create more strategic value. Low-maintenance design features such as grassed depressions, fairway tiers, and mounding were introduced to enhance shot variety and course strategy. Wider fairways benefit higher-handicap golfers while also creating new attacking angles for skilled players, though precise approach play remains essential to avoid the longer grass that borders many holes.

The layout consists of two out-and-back nine-hole loops. The front nine is more undulating, while the back nine plays flatter and offers a contrasting challenge. Several holes stand out, beginning with sweeping sea views on holes 2 through 4, followed by lagoon-lined holes from the 6th to the 8th. The 9th hole provides a strong finish to the front nine, playing long and uphill back toward the clubhouse.

The back nine opens on the opposite side of the resort, with holes 10 to 15 routed through dense jungle and distinctive rock outcroppings. A highlight is the long par-4 16th, which cuts through forested terrain back toward the sea. The signature hole is the par-3 17th, a dramatic and demanding shot played across the beach and over a rugged rocky shoreline to a well-protected, tree-framed green. The challenge of the hole is softened by breathtaking views of the sea and the Banyan Tree Resort perched on the hillside.

The traditional Indonesian-style clubhouse occupies the highest point on the property, offering expansive views across the course. Refurbished in 2016, it retains its tropical island character while incorporating modern comforts and amenities. The terrace café, operated as part of the Banyan Tree Resort, serves a selection of local and international cuisine, while the well-stocked pro shop offers a good range of logo apparel, equipment, and golf essentials.
